This topic came into interest for me for a wide variety of reasons.
First off, I was in class and my professor asked us to each come up with something that can be improved around campus, but she also let us venture off further.
The very first thing that came to mind was plastic water bottles. I not only see people drinking out of them all the time, but I also see them laying around on the streets all crinkled up. It kind of makes me wonder, do people really not have the decency to throw away garbage?
Before I begin, I wanted to mention that I rarely ever buy water at the store or anything like that. I believe it’s not only a huge waste of money, but it’s incredibly harsh on the environment. You should also not be reusing water bottles for a few reasons.
First off, the chemicals in the plastic can leak into the water which is bad for obvious reasons. You’re ingesting who knows what into your body. Secondly, I recently read a report that should be especially scary for women.
If you leave your plastic water bottles in your car and laying out in the sun, it can be potentially very bad for you, and put you at risk for breast cancer. The sun somehow reacts with the plastic and that then leaks into the water.
Next time you’re driving down the street or highway, look at the side of the street by the curb. Check out how much garbage you see and notice how much of it is recyclable.
Shouldn’t we all care about what we are doing to our environment? The pollution we are causing not only affects the air we breath and the land we live on, but it also affects us as human beings, our animals, and our natural wildlife.
Do you recycle your plastic water bottles? Do you buy plastic water bottles to begin with?
