Living in the Chicago area has lead to many days where I have been stuck at home all day. I was also sick with the flu last week and was home for four days straight.
I wanted to make myself somewhat productive but also allowing myself to recover from my illness. For some reason I can’t simply do nothing or else I’ll feel super lazy. I’m not going to lie and say there weren’t times when I was lazy because there definitely was, I just don’t fully enjoy it.
So what did I do during my time of being cooped up in my room and away from others?
1. I read many different books.
I read memoirs to books on the Spanish language. I also read books on different mental disorders as well. Then when I was done with all my learning reading, I felt like reading Fifty Shades of Grey, in Spanish. That was quite exciting because my Spanish isn’t all that great yet, so I could barely understand anything.
2. I played countless of games on my phone and iPad.
I played too many games for my own good. If it counts for anything, I was playing trivia games and gaining lots of knowledge. I’m so addicted to Trivia Crack. (That’s what the app is called). I’m just happy I’m addicted to a game that is actually somewhat productive since I am learning new knowledge!
3. I got online errands done.
I ordered certain textbooks and paid off bills. I looked up trips for the summer and created a somewhat concise budget for how much money I’ll need to save for my summer plans. I love having a laptop for the sole purpose of not having to even get out of my bed to do anything when I am sick.
4. I caught up with old friends on Facebook.
I recently moved from another state so I always try to do my best to stay in contact with my friends from back home. I am actually still pretty close with everyone and I’m proud of that. Honestly, I didn’t think I would stay close with anyone back home and it’s quite surprising that I’m still just as close with my friends from St. Louis.
5. I made plans with my friends for when I am no longer sick.
This was important because I was sick for so long and also had to skip out on my plans with people because of it. I also missed out on a couple days of work so I had to make sure to make up those days so I wasn’t missing out on any money.
What did I not do? I definitely didn’t workout for about a week. I was way too sick to do much of any type of moving. I ended up going to work closer to when my sickness was gone, which was a horrible idea. I started to get very ill and actually got sick at work. Next time, I’m going to rest until I know I’m 100% okay.
What do you do during snow days or days you are unable to go anywhere?
