Have you ever stopped to think how disorganization can effect your personal finances? I’m finding that since I’m living out of boxes (while I wait for my house to get done) I’m spending a lot more money than usual.
Why is this?
- Disorganization causes confusion and chaos – When you don’t have a ‘system’ for your finances, you won’t know what is going on. If you just pile your bills up and never pay attention to them, how can you understand your financial situation?
- Disorganization can turn a molehill into a mountain if you don’t catch it soon enough- If you get off track for a few days, you can usually recover easily, but if a few days turn into a few weeks, months and years it can cause major problems.
- Disorganization can cause you to spend money you don’t have – When you don’t pay attention to what is coming in or going out, chances are you are probably spending too much!
The other day I went to cook something and I was missing my measuring cups. Where are they? Who knows! Packed up in a box somewhere still. How annoying! Living like this is causing me to eat out more than usual which is not a good habit to have.
I can’t do much about my living situation at the moment, but I can start to make better choices. If your personal finances are disorganized, why not make it a goal in the next week to start taking small steps towards improving things?
If you need help with this, my Budget Bootcamp will take you through the process of creating a budget and fixing common mistakes made with money.
