I hate it when I make stupid mistakes because I’m not paying attention that ultimately end up costing me money. Grrr.
I’ve been working on various projects over the last couple of weeks and it’s been taking up most of my free time. I’m a bit preoccupied with it and I guess I’ve been kind of out of it.
Last night, I made up a pretty good chicken pasta recipe along with some garlic bread. I used my trusty pizza stone to cook the garlic bread. Yummy, I hadn’t made that in awhile so it was exceptionally good. I took the pizza stone out of the oven like normal and just set it on one of the burners.
What I forgot was I had used this burner earlier to boil the pasta and didn’t shut it off. So the pizza stone sat on the burner, while it was on, for probably 20 minutes. Just as I was walking back into the kitchen, the pizza stone pretty much exploded before my eyes! It took a minute for me to figure out what was going on. I quickly turned off the burner then tried to pick up the pieces. Mistake #2! The pieces were still fiery hot!
Dang. I really like using a pizza stone and I am not really in the mood to buy a new one.
I made a casual comment on facebook and got quite a few responses about the pizza stone in general. Facebook Fan Robert, suggest I try unglazed quarry tile as it is cheaper and is said to work just as good. I hadn’t heard of this, but I’m quite intrigued!
So my stupid little mistake this week allowed me to learn something new and quite interesting that I can’t wait to try.
I’m going to head out to the local hardware store this week (which will probably end up being Home Depot) and look for the quarry tile so I can give this a try. If you have tried this before, please leave a comment and let me know how it worked!
