Some of the ways below may require that you buy something upfront (such as running shoes or a bike), or maybe even paying for gas to get there, but there are ways to even do that for cheap. This could include buying items second hand or walking to your destination.
Whatever the case may be, there are plenty of ways to have affordable fun out there.
I have a lot of fun when I’m outdoors.
I enjoy riding my bike, finding a new place to hike, going camping, running, and more. These are all very affordable ways to have fun, and you can even bring a friend or two (or as many as you want) along to join you.
Go kayaking or canoeing.
If you already have a kayak or canoe, then this is a very cheap way to have fun. Even if you do not personally own one, you can usually rent one for cheap. There are many places near where I live where I can rent a kayak or canoe for around $5 to $10 an hour, which is very affordable if you are wanting to try something new.
Go to a farmer’s or flea market.
Okay, so this isn’t exactly free, because you will probably buy something. BUT, if you need groceries or if you know you need something, then you may be able to score a great deal at a farmer’s or flea market. I also find them to be a lot of fun as well, so it’s a win-win for me!
Much more fun than going to the grocery store… Haha!
Have a potluck with friends.
Some of my favorite nights with friends is when we all get together, bring a delicious dish, drink some wine, and watch a movie. It is very cheap, and we can all hang out and catch up with one another.
Watch a movie.
If you have a TV, then you can probably find a movie for you to watch. I love just sitting on my couch and watching a good movie. Sometimes I go a little crazy and watch too many movies at once, but it’s still something I enjoy.
Search the “free” section on Craigslist.
I recently watched a documentary where a person searched the free section on Craigslist and found a TON of free things for him to do. He played in a band, did some meditation and more.
Even if nothing interests you, it may be an interesting way to step out of your comfort zone and try something new for FREE. 🙂
Visit the library.
I will be honest and say that this is something I don’t take advantage of enough. At the library, you can borrow books and movies for free, which can be a great way to entertain yourself and save money.
How do you have affordable fun?
How much do you think you spend each month on entertainment?
