I’m always trying to find new ways to save money throughout the day. Being a college student keeps me on a pretty tight budget so I try to save every little dollar possible, but I make sure to still have fun and entertain myself at the same time.
1) Buy reusable water bottles, food containers, etc.
I used to buy disposable water bottles which is a big regret I have. I not only wasted my money but I was also polluting the environment and filling the land fills with waste that didn’t need to be there in the first place. Instead of ziplock bags, buy reusable containers.
2) Find the shortest route to school.
I use my GPS on my phone to get to places, but I soon realized my phone was taking me the longer routes, with more traffic. This is because the phone is trying to take you the fastest route possible, but what you don’t realize is that everyone else is going that same route as you because they are using their GPS.
3) Prepare your food and coffee in the morning.
I used to buy my food at school and it’s absurd how expensive these foods are. I once bought a drink, chips, and sandwich for $15. I was desperate for food that day but realized then after that I rather starve then waste that money money on food. I could buy a weeks worth of food on $15 at Aldi’s! Okay, that was a bit of sarcasm.
4) Use Groupon at all when possible.
Whenever you do hit up the mall or movie theater, check out Groupon or Living Social first. Groupon is so awesome because it can also help you see what deals there are in the area you are in. Whenever I am traveling to a different state, I save a ton of money doing tourist-like things from using Groupon.
However, do not buy things that you know you will never use on discount sites. That’s just a waste of money if you are just spending money that doesn’t need to be spent.
5) Entertain yourself without spending a dime.
I’ve learned to become more in tune with nature and cut less time spending money on entertainment purposes that are man made. I spend more time outside hiking, running, and simply reading outside. I enjoy doing these things more than spending my time inside at a movie theater.
6) Read finance blogs to better your education.
I’ve learned so much from reading finance blogs on a regular basis. I was nowhere near as finance savvy as I am now a few years ago. I am learning more and more every time I read my favorite finance blogs. I get so much free advice that I would usually have to pay for from professionals.
7) Workout and eat healthy.
A lot of people believe eating healthy is expensive, and it can be if you don’t shop wisely. I paired these two together because when done simultaneously, you are saving money on your medical care in the long run. Take care of your body now and the rest of your life and you will reap the benefits.
