Going to college costs money, owning/renting a house costs money, and so does pretty much everything else. I’ve taken care of myself since I was 17 years old and I’ve paid for everything since then. I quickly realized how expensive living in general is. The value of a dollar is much different to me now than it was when I was little.
Money affects my every day life.
I chose a school that was doable tuition wise, and stayed away from others that were out of my price range.
I chose my living area solely because of how much it cost, and stayed away from the nicer areas due to the higher cost of living. I never knew the cost of living could be increased just from a few miles, one city to the next. I live next to one of the most expensive grocery stores in the area, but once you move to the next city the prices go down significantly. Where you choose to live is extremely important, although it is nice to live in a beautiful/safe area.
I try to not let money affect my life in certain ways.
For example, I used to NEVER travel unless I had a good amount of money saved up. I would say no to trips and instead I would work overtime just so I had a little extra money in my bank.
I quickly realized that this wasn’t what life is about. Working 40 to sometimes 70 hours a week isn’t living life. I now have a rule for myself: To travel as much as I can, and not let money hold me back. I especially try to travel as much as I can while I have no kids or significant other. There isn’t necessarily ever going to be a perfect time to travel, so travel anytime you can.
You can make money when you come back home, but you can’t make crazy, life changing experiences at home everyday.
Now I’m not saying blow all of your money on traveling because that obviously isn’t realistic, but still try to travel as much as you can. We have many different options in this day and age because of everything that is available to us online.
I use couchsurfing.org anytime I go traveling now and it saves me a whole lotta change. I also get to meet amazing people from all of the world and they share their home with me, along with many priceless memories. Find ways to save money on flight tickets and learn the tricks of the trade. There are many ways to save money on plane tickets simply starting from what day you buy them.
Internet sites also can generate how many times you go to the website and can boost tickets simply from that. To put it simply, airlines are very sneaky!
