I recently cut my cable and I save a ton of money. It started to make me question why I even had cable in the first place. Maybe it seems like a necessity for most American homes, but I no longer feel that way since Netflix and Hulu started.
Many people like to keep their cable because Netflix obviously only has certain movies and T.V. shows on it. Sometimes I miss cable because I no longer get to watch some of the shows I used to watch, but the lowered expenses each month make it worth it.
1) Netflix saves a ton of money on entertainment purposes.
Instead of going out and spending money at the bar on overpriced drinks, you can have a Netflix party at home. Invite all of your friends and buy your own drinks/food. Have a Walking Dead party and have everyone dress up like zombies. You could even have zombie inspired snacks!
2) It’s easy to find something that will interest you.
You can type in actors, or a part of the movie name in order to find the movie. There’s been so many times when I forgot the movie name and it made it a lot easier finding it in the search engine. If I feel like having a movie day that has 1 specific actor in all the movies, I can do that!
3) Everything is split into genres and subgenres.
You can also pick movies based on ratings of previous movies you’ve watched. This truly comes in handy because I don’t have to waste time trying to find things to watch. I also love reading the reviews that movies and T.V. shows have gotten before I watch them because it obviously saves time in case it’s a bad movie. (I have seen movies on Netflix that I actually thought were good, but had bad ratings. So don’t always listen to what the reviews say.)
4) The price for Netflix is only $7.99.
That saves a ton of money on renting these movies at Redbox or Family Video, etc. You no longer have to get in the car and waste money on gas in order to get these movies. You can simply stay in the comfort of your house. You can also add on electronic devices for other family members for about $1.00 each.
5) If you have kids, there is an added bonus.
The kids have there own selection to choose from. I nanny a little girl and it comes in handy when she is only browsing in the kids section, as opposed to seeing inappropriate movies on the adult side.
Do you use Netflix or Hulu? Are you still paying for cable?
