This may come as a surprise to some people, but you don’t need a gym membership to stay fit and active.
I save tons of money by working out at home and using the outdoors as my personal gym. Having a gym does have its perks, but I much rather enjoy the perks of saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars annually, depending on whether or not you have a personal trainer as well.
Here are five reasons you should ditch your gym membership and start saving money today:
1. Time.
The amount of time you save from transportation and traffic is enough for a regular one hour work out each day. It would take me about 20 minutes to get to the closest gym and altogether that equates to 40 minutes round trip.
That’s 40 minutes that I could’ve been working out. I don’t know about you, but I highly dislike driving and I’ll do anything to spend another minute at home since I’m a homebody. I have also found that having a gym membership is pretty much useless in the winter when it is snowing or the roads are icy. Which is like 75% of the time during December-February for me.
2. You obviously save money and won’t have to pay for an enrollment plan or hidden fees.
I don’t miss those initiation fees at all. Some of the gyms I went to would make you pay upwards to $100. I’ve yet to find a gym in my area that doesn’t make you pay for an enrollment fee, yet everyone from my hometown has never had to pay for such a thing.
I also don’t have to worry about the 40 minute drive there and back from a gym, which saves hundreds of dollars a year on gas.
3. There are no excuses that you don’t have time for a workout.
You are already drastically cutting time from not having to drive to a gym. I like to wake up 30 minutes earlier than I would on school days and I get my workout done then. I’ve realized that if I wait until the very end of my day, I have almost zero motivation to do anything.
4. You won’t get bother or nagged about products.
I’ve had my fair share of run ins with those guys that think they can pick up any girl at the gym. I don’t know about these guys, but I’m going to the gym for an actual workout. If I wanted to get hit on, I’d go to somewhere else where I’m not sweating and smell bad.
I also get annoyed when people are constantly trying to sell me their products/training sessions once I enroll in a gym. I still regret handing over my number to a gym a few months ago. I still get phone calls from that place.
5. You get to work on you without anybody judging or looking at you.
I also love that I can workout in my bra and shorts without anyone looking at me. I get to try new workouts that I’ve never done before without anyone looking at me with a “what in the world is she doing” face.
Do you have a membership to a gym or do you workout at home?
Which one have you found to work out better for you?
My gym membership recently expired and I didn’t renew it because they doubled the cost. THIEVES! I’ve been finding different ways to workout at home, but I do miss the gym. Since I work at home, some days that was my only reason for leaving the house and talking to people.
