I’m glad you’re addressing the need of an emergency fund. I learned at some point not to call it an emergency fund because then you tend to find more and more emergencies. When we talk about paying yourself first, though, I feel that is more for building long-term accumulation that can not be achieved if it keeps getting depleted by emergencies. So, by paying yourself first you are securing your financial future and by also adding to your emergency fund (or contingency fund) you are protecting yourself.
