WHEW!!! What a rough few days it’s been here at The Jenny Pincher’s headquarters. In case you didn’t see my earlier post, my website was hacked! I have no idea what they wanted with my site but seriously people, talk about giving me a heart attack!
The ironic part of this whole thing was I found out about the hacking when I was sitting in a class on WordPress security at WordCamp 2011. (Wordcamp is basically a day long workshop with tons of different classes on WordPress (the platform I use for this website).). So I’m sitting there and the security class is getting ready to start and I get these odd emails from me. I’m thinking ok…hmm… I haven’t had a chance to post recently but…hhmm….so I look at my site and BAM! UGLY lorepum blah blah blah crap on my homepage! NO! The worst part was I had to sit ALL DAY in the classes and worry about what was going on with my site! The good thing was I learned the proper security measures to take for this website. Wow. Hard lesson learned! The coolest thing about that day was Matt Mullenweg, the creator of WordPress, was our keynote speaker! To WordPress dorks like me, that’s a pretty cool thing. He was a really nice guy too.
Now on to fun things. One of my articles, 10 Tips to Lowering Your Food Bill When You Cook For Yourself, was featured in the Personal Finance Roundup on The Consumerist website! Yipee!! Thanks to Free Money Finance for featuring me. If your looking for some more great personal finance tips, make sure you check out his post on the Best Cash Back Credit Cards for August 2011.
My moving day is next week so I have a couple of guest posts scheduled for next week (I’m still looking for more guest bloggers). Once I get moved and settled, things will be back to normal around here. I can’t wait because I have lots of ideas for the site and I can’t wait to actually get started on them!
Until then, stay safe from hackers by making sure all online passwords are 8 RANDOM characters or more and don’t forget to backup your work!
