iCaughtSanta.com – Great Last Minute Gift Idea & 50% off Code!

Browsing around online, I saw this site called iCaughtSanta.com that was just too funny to pass up not blogging about. The basic idea is you can take a picture of an area of your house where your Christmas tree is and add Santa to the picture in one of the 20 different poses.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1 – Capture Your Background

Take a digital picture of your Christmas tree or maybe your fireplace… it’s up to you. This will be your background photo. Horizontal, high-resolution pictures work best. Save your background photo to your computer and then upload it to this site.

Step 2 – Create your Photo
Pick one of their many Santa poses and magically place him into your background photo. You can adjust his size, color, brightness and position with our easy-to-use tools. Then select a festive border, preview and finalize your design. Here is an example of some of the Santa poses (I personally like #18 lol):

Step 3 – Share the Magic!
Download, email or print your photo, automatically, for quick pickup at a store near you. Plus you can share it instantly to more than 30 popular web sites like Facebook, Twitter etc.

iCaughtSanta.com is a unique website that helps visitors create those memorable keepsake photos. In three simple steps anyone can upload a holiday photo, add Santa Claus and print it as proof… or share it via Facebook and Twitter. Last-minute shoppers can purchase Gift Cards and eGift Certificates for loved ones with children, making iCaughtSanta.com a great gift idea even if you don’t have kids yourself.

I think this idea is so clever and creative! You could have a lot of fun with this making different pictures for different people in your family. Right now they are running a special where you can get 50% off your entire order.

Just enter: SANTA50 and get your entire order for 1/2 price!

Enjoy & Merry Christmas! If you get an iCaughSanta.com picture, please be sure and share it with me!!! I’d love to see it :)

Did I Ever Tell You How This Blog Got Started?

I spent some much needed time this weekend giving this blog some much needed attention.  I changed the layout in hopes to make the information I provide you much easier to find. I went through and deleted over 2,500 spam comments (YIKES!) and recategorized all 283 posts to fit them into the categories you find on the home page.

WHEW!! I stayed up until 2 am on Friday night working through the layout. I actually really enjoy doing that part of the blog so time went by (too fast for me). As I was going through all my posts and the design, I was thinking about how the blog got started (and how far I’ve come with it). But I don’t think I ever told you the story about it.

Back in the fall of 2007, one of the times I was laid off, I was finding it really hard to find a job and even harder to figure out what/who I wanted to be when I grew up. I had a lot of idle time on my hands and it was pretty distressing. If you’ve never been unemployed, trust me it’s impossible to look for jobs 8 hours a day so you need something to do to get your mind off it.

I remember looking online at all the different blogs that were out there and thinking “why can’t I do this?”. I had no clue what I wanted to write about but I think at that point I was more interested in getting the blog set up. I started on blogger and set it up quicker than I thought I could. Then I sat there thinking “now what”?  What do I write about?! I had been emailing back and forth with one of my friends and she said why don’t you just write about the things you do every day. That’s it?! That’s what people want to read? Ok, I can do that.

My first post was about Emailing the Grocery Store. I have to tell you I can’t even bring myself to read this because I’m actually a little embarrassed to think what it says. Back then I had such a different outlook on personal finance and the whole concept of money. I was living in a mindset of “lacking” and scarcity.

This blog has come a long way. Tomorrow (Oct 17th) the blog will be 4 years old!!  I can’t believe it’s been that long but I’m so excited with what’s to come for this website. It’s constantly on my mind. I am always thinking about new things to write about or how I can give you more information and value. This blog is a big part of my life and I look forward to working on it every day (even if I’m not able to post, I’m always doing something with it).

I can’t wait to keep writing and I’m so excited now that I have the new layout. I think everything will be much easier to find and keep up with. As always, I love to hear from you so if you have any feedback on how the site looks or is arranged, be sure and let me know!!! And a big THANK YOU for your continued support of this site!

Royal Wedding Memorabilia: 10 Odd Ways to Remember the Royal Wedding

With an event as big as the Royal Wedding, there have been all kinds of memorabilia popping up. I, of course, have been following this closely! So I thought I’d share the list I found (p.s. it’s 4 am and I haven’t slept so forgive me if I sound a little loopy)!

1. Royal Wedding Sick Bag – LOL actually kind of funny

2.  Crown Jewel Condoms – The box looks so nice…

3.  A refrigerator- Umm…why?

4.  Toliet Seat Cover – I don’t really get this either.

5.  Here is a nice list that includes nail decals and The Royal Wedding for Dummies book

6.  Royal Wedding Gnomes – I sort of like these.

7.  Royal Viagra Beer – Only 1,000 bottles available!

8.  William and Kate Lifesize Cutout – While odd, I secretly would like this too.

9.  Royal {ahem} Wedding Ring – Probably not the ring you think it’s going to be!

10. The Royal Ring! – Ok so this isn’t really odd but I remember when I first saw the commercial for this, I had to have it! What a great way to remember the wedding with a replica of Princess Dianna’s ring!

If you happen to find the Harry & Kate misprint mug, pick it up! I will probably be a collectors item!

Have you found something odd or wacky to remember the Royal Wedding? Please post it, I’d love to see it!

My Favorite Frugal Find That Everyone Else Hates

My favorite frugal find came from a yard sale I went to 10 years ago. My friends and I were out looking for good buys (and probably things we could resell on eBay).  We walked up the driveway to a random house and I saw it, a purple leather jacket! This was no ordinary jacket, it was long and flowing and fitted at the waist. It was perfect.

I should probably set the scene here. The person having the yardsale (and yes I can remember this distinctly 10 years later) looked like a leftover hippie still stuck in 1970. She talked like it too. She seemed to be floating on air with a wild mess of hair and a total nonchalant attitude. That type of personality usually means easy negoiating at a yardsale. Jackpot!

“How much for the jacket?”, I asked. The reply was “Oh I don’t know, how about a dollar?”. A DOLLAR! Are you kidding me! I could not believe it. I tried it on, it fit like a glove. I snatched it up immediately and it has been mine ever since. I can not part with this jacket. I love it.

Everyone else hates it but I don’t care. I wear it proudly. It’s purple. It cost a dollar. It is wonderful.

Sidenote: Purple is my favorite color so that makes this find even more spectacular.

The Purple Leather Jacket

I don’t know where this jacket came from, there are no tags in it. It appears to be handmade but I’m not sure. The jacket shows a little wear in a few spots, but that’s ok with me. Afterall, I’m sure it’s an antique.  A few of the buttons have popped off and I kept telling myself I’d replace them but I have not gotten around to it. It just wouldn’t be the same if I started messing with it. I like it the way it is.

What about you? Have you found something awesome at a yardsale, flea market or thrift store that you love so much, you just can’t part with it? Can you top the purple leather jacket? I’d love to hear about it so feel free to leave a comment. I can’t wait to hear about other frugal finds!
